Hobonichi A5 Techo Cover: Yumi Kitagishi - White Cat Village

Kitagishi's fourth cover for Hobonichi, and the largest scene of them: a whole village the white cats live in, spread under a great tree and a hill, with rows of coloured houses and animals going about their business, some working and some plainly not. It comes out of the same dollhouse and garden-party world that runs through her work, painted in acrylic gouache and printed onto polyester that holds the colour and the brush texture.

Inside, the surface the book slides against is done as pale green wallpaper, and the right pocket has a white cat playing with a dollhouse of its own. The butterfly-stopper pen holders are drawn as flowered Tyrolean tape and the bookmark is a plain ribbon. The back moves the animals onto a grassy hillside for afternoon tea, and looking into the pocket there shows you the basement of a little tree house. There is a short message tucked into one corner.
