Hobonichi A5 Techo Cover: V&A Series - Blackthorn

Made with the V&A in London, and both faces are John Henry Dearle's, the designer who worked closest to William Morris and eventually ran the design side of his firm. The front is his Blackthorn wallpaper, hawthorn and blackthorn blossom twisted together as a spring design; the back is his Leicester of 1912, denser and more stylised.

The interior is a sharp yellow against all that foliage. The pen holder is a woven label carrying Morris's best-known line about keeping only what is useful or beautiful, and it grips a pen by the barrel rather than the clip, so it reads as trim on the cover even when empty.
