Hobonichi Techo Cover: Glow - Chianti

A leather cover made to be aged rather than protected. The hide is Toscano Liscio from Conceria 800 in Tuscany, tanned by the Bagnetto method with vegetable tannins worked slowly through every fibre, which is why the grain is as fine as it is. Chianti is a deep burgundy named for the Tuscan wine, finished with aniline so nothing sits between your hands and the leather; it will darken and gloss where you hold it.

The construction is deliberately spare. It folds in thirds, the leather is cut generously so the left sleeve can be folded and sewn rather than pieced, and the right sleeve is stitched only along its top and bottom edges. The inside is left unlined, which keeps it thin and lets the reverse of the hide show; a wax treatment smooths that surface and adds some water resistance. The card pocket is a plain slit and the flap closes on a magnetic button.
