Hobonichi Techo Cover: Colors

Colors is the workhorse of the Hobonichi cover range and the one that has been revised most often, quietly, in response to what people said was wrong with it. What you get is a plain polyester cover with a subtle sheen, sturdy enough to take a year of daily handling and light enough that you forget it is there.

The name undersells it slightly: each colourway is a pair rather than a single flat colour, an exterior set against a contrasting lining or accent. Chiffon Greige runs a muted grey-beige against pale pink; Blue Parasol puts a vivid turquoise against a retro pink. The effect is that the second colour only shows when the cover is open, so the same book reads differently on a desk than it does in a bag.

The pen holders are the butterfly-stopper type, hinged loops rather than a single elastic: a pen threaded through both holds the cover shut, which is what stops a techo splaying open against everything else in a bag. Two bookmarks are fitted, one ending in a rectangular charm and one in a triangular one, so you can hold two places at once and tell them apart by feel.
