Hobonichi Landscape Notebook: Akiko Miyakoshi - I Dream of a Journey

The first B6 in the Hobonichi notebook range, and it is landscape rather than portrait, which suits both the artwork and the use: it sits open on a tray table or a cafe table without needing much depth. B6 puts it between the A6 Original and the A5 Cousin.

The cover comes from Akiko Miyakoshi's picture book I Dream of a Journey, made as a lithograph, in which the traveller moves by plane between towns they do not know. The series phrase is foil-pressed in an iridescent aurora finish against a matte ground. The back carries the dawn sky seen from above cloud, taken from the book's endpapers, an image Miyakoshi drew from long flights where the light arrives sideways through the cabin at the wrong hour.

Inside, the 3.7 mm grid is printed in a soft yellow-ochre, quiet enough to guide writing without interrupting a drawing.
