Hobonichi Cover on Cover: Yoshie Watanabe - Dotted Plaid

A clear protective layer carrying a design by art director Yoshie Watanabe, made in three sizes. The A6 and A5 are Cover on Covers, which go over a techo cover rather than the book; the Weeks size is a Clear Cover, which goes straight onto the book. Either way it takes the year's wear and puts a pattern onto something plain.

Dotted Plaid does what its name says and not much more: dots set on an even grid, spaced so the eye assembles them into a check. They are silkscreened in four colours, white, green, blue and pink, which is why it holds up over any cover colour you put behind it. There is no slit in the back, so the artwork runs uninterrupted and the cover's rear pocket is not reachable while it is on.
