Keiko Shibata painted this for her own 2017 gallery show, and it is exactly what its title says: an elderly couple in the front seats of a bright red bus, crossing an open field, going to an unknown destination. Both of them are smiling.
It is printed onto a textured polyester chosen to hold the character of the oil pastel original, so the reds, greens and whites shift in shade across the cover the way hand-drawn work does. Red piping runs around the edge as a frame, the lining is a soft ivory, and the two bookmarks end in round black charms shaped after the bus's tyres. Shibata's signature is printed inside the left pocket.
