Hobonichi A6 HON 2027 (Japanese): Hiroko Kubota - String Telephone Until the Moon is Full

The HON is the hardcover member of the Hobonichi family: a full daily planner with its cover built in, so there is nothing to slip on or take off and nothing to buy separately. The cover is a painting by illustrator Hiroko Kubota, and it is a scene rather than a pattern: a meadow under a slowly shifting sunset, a cat with its eyes shut listening hard at a tin-can telephone, and a wolf at the far end of the string speaking gently back.

A mouse rides a unicycle up and down the string, standing in for the voices going between them. Behind it all the horizon runs out flat, a Ferris wheel turns in the distance and a white crescent hangs in the sky, the moon caught partway to full. The year and the HON logo are foiled in matte silver on the front and spine, which is the only bright thing against the gradient.
